Fahmida Riaz

Fahmida Riaz: She was born in Meerut, India, and educated in Hyderabad and London, Fahmida Riaz is counted among the front rank of writers and poets of Urdu. She has been writing poetry and stories since the age of 15 and has been involved in social and political activism since her college days. Fahmida’s work is remarkable for its emotionally charged references to social and political injustice. She has been a prominent voice in the feminist struggle in Pakistan, where her poems both directly and insidiously erode at the foundations of male dominance. Fahmida Riaz was given the Himmett-Hellman award by Human Rights Watch, New York, in 1997.
